Hub and logistics center for medical tourism in the region of Pleven/Northern Bulgaria
Over the years, the city of Pleven has emerged as the main and second largest medical center in Bulgaria after capital city Sofia. The presence of the second largest Medical University in the country, the largest district hospital in Northern Bulgaria, the most innovative private hospital “St. Marina”, the largest private hospital in the country “Heart and Brain”, the rehabilitation and recovery hospital “Avis Medica” and numerous smaller medical institutions place Pleven as the holder of the map of medicine in the country.
Pleven is a city steeped in history and culture, offering a variety of attractions nearby. After visiting the hospital, tourists can take a stroll through the vibrant streets of Pleven, enjoying the local shops, cafes, and historical sites that paint a picture of the city’s heritage.
The region's medical facilities also serve as a reminder of the importance of healthcare in travel, ensuring that visitors have access to quality medical services when needed. If you find yourself in Pleven and require medical attention, Dr. Georgi Stranski University Hospital stands ready to assist, providing care in a supportive environment that reflects the city's welcoming spirit. The main areas in which the city has world-class specialists are:
• Cardiology • Oncology • Gynecology • Orthopedics • Aesthetic Medicine • Dental Surgery • Postoperative Recovery |

There is also a large, modern bed base, which can initially accommodate about 13,000 patients per year in beginning, about 2,000 for dental medicine and over a thousand for follow-up treatment and good possibility of further increase. There are also sufficient accommodation options in the city or surrounding tourist destinations for people accompanying patients.
Last but not least, we should mention the presence of an airport for small aircraft and a larger, licensed runway for large passenger aircraft located at the Air Force School in the immediate vicinity of the city. If necessary, both airports can serve for the development of air medical tourism. Iit should be noted that the local medical community works in close connection with the Municipality of Pleven and solves the problems and challenges that arise together with it.

Pleven also has a favorable location and good connectivity through the “Hemus” highway with the major airports in Sofia located 150 km from the city, through the “Danube Bridge” in Ruse and the bridge near the city of Vidin and through the ferry complexes in Nikopol, Svishtov, Silistra and Oryahovo with neighboring Romania. Through the exit highways from Sofia to neighboring countries, we also have good road connectivity with Greece and Serbia.
The city also offers rich opportunities for cultural tourism with numerous sites, which offer balneotherapy, winter tourism and other similar products, most of which are related to Romanian and ancient Roman history.
This entire set of features has turned the city Pleven into a leading medical center in Bulgaria and provides a serious opportunity for the development of medical tourism, especially towards foreign clients.
What we need is a direct connection with foreign medical funds to take over the treatment of their clients, additional investments in the development of infrastructure, especially that of airports, and most importantly, know-how for the construction, functioning and development of the medical tourism system.
The HUB and Health Center, developed with great respect for the environment, will be an innovative complex that combines modern health infrastructure with a logistic and coordination center for various services and activities.
The HUB could include facilities for patient allocation, health education, professional training for medical staff, as well as a space for information events and exchanges of good practices.
The Health Center can offer specialized medical services, advanced diagnostics, innovative treatments and a wide range of therapies, having a significant impact on the quality of life of the inhabitants of the region.
This project has the potential to create valuable partnerships between Romania and Bulgaria, but also with Italy and other countries. Collaboration between them could support the development of innovative health solutions and facilitate the transfer of advanced knowledge and technologies.
